Adhesives by application

Adhesives for film lamination and holograms

A laminating adhesive is a bonding layer chosen for a lasting bond rather than for tack, because a laminate is meant to stay together. Our lamination grades run from AP 0140, with near-zero tack on metal, to AP 0132, a water-thin, tack-free adhesive for hologram application that also serves as a primer.

What matters

What does a laminating adhesive need?

A laminate is meant to stay together, so what counts is the strength of the joint once it has cured, not how sticky the adhesive feels. Some lamination grades are almost tack-free by design.

Which grades coat thin and even?

Lamination and hologram work use thin layers. AP 0132 and AP 0140 are low-viscosity grades (0.2–1.0 poise) that lay down a thin, even film.

Which grade dries tack-free for holograms?

Hologram application needs an adhesive that ends up completely dry to the touch. AP 0132 is a water-thin grade that is bone dry after curing, and it also works as a primer.

What bonds fibrous and rough surfaces?

Fabric, board and carpet absorb a thin coat. AP 0140 bonds fibrous materials. For carpet and other rough surfaces, AP 1252R is listed in our carpet and rough-surfaces lamination category.

We measured these values in our own laboratory according to PSTC methods: 180° peel on stainless steel, with the adhesive coated on 25 µm PET at 25 ± 2 gsm. Shear is printed as a minimum.

Which grade does what?

  • AP 0140: For film lamination; near-zero tack on metal, and bonds fibrous materials.
  • AP 0132: For hologram application; 100% dry and tack-free after curing; also used as a primer.
  • AP 1053P: Listed for PVC lamination; non-oozing with low shrinkage.
  • AP 502: Listed for PVC lamination; general purpose, high tack.
  • AP 505: Listed for PVC lamination; general purpose, high clarity.
  • AP 1252R: Two-pack, high tack; carpet and rough-surface lamination, and carpet protection tape.

Which grades suit film lamination and holograms?

Advance Adhesives Private Limited, a manufacturer of adhesives in Belagavi, India, since 1995, makes six grades for film lamination and holograms: AP 0132, AP 0140, AP 1053P, AP 502, AP 505 and AP 1252R. They are made for film lamination, hologram application, PVC lamination and carpet and rough-surface lamination. The grades are used on films, fibrous materials, PVC and carpet and rough surfaces. We measured peel, tack and shear in our own laboratory according to PSTC methods, with the adhesive coated on 25 µm PET at 25 ± 2 gsm. A laminate is meant to stay together, so what counts is the strength of the joint once it has cured, not how sticky the adhesive feels. Some lamination grades are almost tack-free by design.
