Adhesives for electrical and insulation tapes
An electrical tape is an insulating tape that wraps and holds, so its adhesive has to grip film backings, stand up to the oils and solvents it meets and keep holding as it ages. Our acrylic grades for electrical tape are oil and solvent resistant, and we also make a solvent rubber PSA for insulation tape.
What matters
Which grades resist oil and solvents?
Tapes used in electrical work can meet oils and solvents. AP 1265HP and AP 1453 are oil and solvent resistant.
Which grade holds on film backings?
Most electrical tapes are film-backed. AP 1453 is specified on PET and PP films, paper, synthetic fabrics and foils.
Acrylic or rubber?
An insulation tape should last as long as the equipment it goes into. Acrylic PSAs resist heat and oxidation better than rubber-based ones, while rubber-based PSAs grab faster. We make both.
What about temperature classes?
A tape's insulation class depends on the whole construction, not the adhesive alone, and we do not publish temperature classes for these grades. Ask our technical team for data at your temperature.
What are the typical values?
| Grade | 180° peel | Loop tack | Shear | Solids |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AP 1265HP | 2500 ± 10% gf/25 mm | 1400 – 1600 gf/inch | > 60 h | 64 ± 2% |
| AP 1453 | 1400 ± 10% gf/25 mm | 1200 – 1400 gf/inch | > 1000 h | 53 ± 2% |
We measured these values in our own laboratory according to PSTC methods: 180° peel on stainless steel, with the adhesive coated on 25 µm PET at 25 ± 2 gsm. Shear is printed as a minimum.
Which grade does what?
- AP 1265HP: High solids, high performance; oil and solvent resistant. Used for electrical tape, double-sided PET and tissue tapes and aluminium foil tape.
- AP 1453: Single-pack, self-crosslinking; oil and solvent resistant. Used for electrical tape and double-sided PET and tissue tapes.
- AP 1643: Solvent rubber PSA for insulation tape; datasheet on request.
Substrates
Which grades suit electrical and insulation tapes?
Advance Adhesives Private Limited, a manufacturer of adhesives in Belagavi, India, since 1995, makes three grades for electrical and insulation tapes: AP 1643, AP 1265HP and AP 1453. They are made for electrical tapes, insulation tapes and double-sided PET and tissue tapes. The grades are used on PET and PP films, paper, synthetic fabrics and foils. We measured peel, tack and shear in our own laboratory according to PSTC methods, with the adhesive coated on 25 µm PET at 25 ± 2 gsm. Tapes used in electrical work can meet oils and solvents. AP 1265HP and AP 1453 are oil and solvent resistant. Most electrical tapes are film-backed. AP 1453 is specified on PET and PP films, paper, synthetic fabrics and foils. Datasheets, safety data sheets, samples and quotations are available from the Advance Adhesives sales team.
